Laparoscopy – Level 3 Target audience

  • Postgraduates in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Postgraduates in General Surgery
  • Gynaecologists
  • General Surgeons

Methods:

  • Number of participants: 9
  • Number of simulation workstations: 3
  • Number of teachers: 3 (Students-Teachers ratio is 3:1)

Materials:

  • 3 laparoscopic simulation workstations with complete laparoscopic towers and instrumentation
  • 3 pre-insufflated abdomens with skin-like pad for the practice of the access into abdomen
  • Femail pelvic environment accurately reproduced with 3Dprinted organs in human-like tissue, comprehensive of supportive structures and vascular tree

The Hands on session is organized as follows:
After learning and discussing the basics of laparoscopic surgery and instrumentation, and surgical tecniques of some interventions, the attendants will simulate in turns a surgical laparoscopic intervention, preparing and using the simulators as they would in the real operating theatre.

Course learning goals

After completing the course, the attendants will be able to:

  • Have a thorough knowledge of abdominal access tecniques
  • Have a thorough knowledge of ipsilateral surgical tecnique
  • Have a thorough knowledge of Vertical Zone suturing tecnique
  • Be acquainted with the extracorporeal knotting technique
  • Perform a detailed simulation of laparoscopic surgical interventions, with abdominal dissection and suture through 3Dprinted anatomic models
  • Be prepared to manage in autonomy an intervention of:
    • Laparoscopic myomectomy with ipsilateral tecnique
    • Laparoscopic hysterectomy with ipsilateral tecnique
    • Intracorporeal sutures with Vertical Zone and extracorporeal knotting
